SOMALIA, Mogadishu: In a photograph released by the African Union-United Nations Information Support Team 29 Nov, Major-General Fred Mugisha, the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) Force Commander gestures during a press conference at the operation’s headquarters in the Somali capital. Maj. Gen Mugisha, flanked by the heads of different Somali security agencies today appealed to the Mogadishu public to report any suspicious activities or behaviour following a spate of explosions in the capital blamed on the Al-Qaeda-linked group Al Shabaab, which has killed a number of civilians, including woman and children and members of the security forces. Al Shabaab withdrew from fixed positions in Mogadishu in August of this year after steadily losing ground to AMISOM and Transitional Federal Government (TFG) forces, professing to revert to guerilla-style tactics including roadside bombs, suicide bombings and the use of improvised explosive-devices.
